What a touching piece. Thank you for sharing this; my words feel inadequate.

Out of many passages that stopped me so I could read again and savor -to understand deeper - these two contained some of the deepest resonance:

- "Every generation receives the childhood its times permit."

This hits heavy, with weight and clear-seeing.

- "Each time we prepare them with the same careful attention, a small part of their way of loving continues through our own hands."

Oh the tenderness of this. And how it transfers to most activities we benefit from with those we love, that we then learn to enact ourselves.

Each and every word in which you describe rajma chawal shows that it's not about the rajma chawal you describe your parents love for their children ❤️❤️

Such a beautiful, moving piece, Chef Daljeet. What especially touched me is this line:

“Food, I have come to believe, is often the doorway.

Memory is the room beyond.”

I loved how the blog has oscillated between your emotions towards parents and the food. 🩷 Amazing!

Thank you so much, Shreshtha. That means more than you know. ❤️ It was a very emotional piece to write, and I'm grateful that the rhythm between food and family resonated with you. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and sharing your thoughtful reflection.
